Hey there, I'm Emma (she/they), and it's nice to meet you.

I'm obsessed with fabric and yarn, I'm a lover of puns and I adore a steaming mug of strong tea (milk, no sugar, please!). I'm a word herder, creative geek and a disabled queer and neurodiverse person.

Nestled in Nottingham, I'm the non-binary brain behind Crow and Arrows, and my cosy little fam includes a rather pampered greyhound who rules the roost.

Like many of my comrades in craftiness, I've got a collection of sewing and crochet patterns that just won't stop growing! When it comes to fabric, I'm a textile artist, quilter and maker of clothes and bags. I'm being ever more mindful of recycling and sustainability and as I go, attempt to replace my older, less environmental stash with better alternatives.

Crochet, or as I like to call it, "tying holes together with yarn," is my hands-and-brain engagement activity. I took to it like a duck to water and am happy to hook whether I'm whipping up cosy blankets, wearables, or creating small-scale artistic statements.

Diving into a different realm -- one of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror -- you'll find me writing as Emma K. Leadley. You can find out more about my writing on my author website. And hey, if you're feeling spontaneous, visit Amazon to view my recently published novella, Telling the Bees. It's received some cracking reviews so far, so why not give it a read?

So there you have it – a whirlwind tour of my creative, pun-loving, tea-sipping world. Thanks for stopping by, and let's keep the conversation rolling!

My Values

I am a fierce intersectional feminist and want to be part of a kinder, more caring world. One way I can do this is through building Crow and Arrows in an empathic way, taking into account factors such as race, sexuality, gender, (dis)ability, neurodiversity, physical and mental health, religion, parenthood, those with caring responsibilities and more.

I believe that:

  • Black lives and trans lives matter
  • Gender exists beyond our Western binary and all genders are valid; in addition, all love deserves legal recognition
  • A person cannot be ‘illegal’. Immigrants need our help — in Britain, we were all immigrants once whether we arrived by land or sea
  • All people are equally worthy of respect until they prove otherwise with their words or actions
  • COVID is real and dangerous as is global warming

On this website you’ll find:

  • Helpful, original content – No clickbait, no fluff, no rambling filler, and sensibly used headings to help you navigate to where you want to be on the page.
  • Simple and clear language – Crafting comes with a whole lot of its own language. For crochet, I use guidelines by the (US) Crafts Yarn Council Standards to help explain pattern difficulty rating, sizing, yarn weights and more.
  • Accessible and inclusive No pages are set to open in new tabs or windows and I use alt tags where needed. I use non-gendered language and sizing, and don’t assume pronouns or titles.
  • Useful referrals and recommendations – I may recommend products or services. I only link to companies I believe in and use myself.
  • No gated content – What you see is what you get!
  • No spam, no sales hassle – You can unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time, and all signups to my newsletter will be via double-consent, as per legal standards. I also hate getting ‘abandoned cart’ emails and extra nudges by email to get me to buy. I won’t do this to you.
  • No popups or browser notifications – If you want to signup to my newsletter, there’s a link in the footer. If I want to draw your attention to something, I’ll do it on the page, not by forcing you to close boxes to read my content.
